Energy Sources

Prior to maintenance or service on a machine, all energy sources must be shut down and locked out to prevent injury. Energy sources include:

• Electrical
• Water Under Pressure
• Pneumatic
• Gases and Fluid
• Hydraulic Pumps
• Chemicals or Coolants
• Hydraulic Lines
• Gravity
• Mechanic
• Thermal
• Steam

Stored energy must be released to a zero state which is done by bleeding off air, grounding the circuits, draining hydraulic valves, discharging capacitors, and other methods that are essential for total equipment shutdown.

WiscoLift provides an annual LOTO program to keep companies in compliance. We tag each piece of machinery with a detailed drawing and procedures to follow when shutting down the equipment. Documentation outlining the procedures and company’s responsibilities are included for each machine.

Your annual LOTO Program includes:

• Identification tags for each piece of equipment indicating where the energy source is, and detailed instructions how to isolate the energy, check the machine and remove lockout.
• Documentation for you to distribute to each employee that uses the equipment on safe practices.
• Specific dated Lockout Procedure Form for employee use and recording for OSHA.
• LOTO equipment, if necessary.
